Hextris

Hextris is a fast-paced, hexagonal twist on classic Tetris and match‑3 gameplay. Here’s a deeper look:

🎮 What is Hextris?

A browser-based puzzle game first officially launched in August 2014, built in HTML5 by Logan Engstrom & Garrett Finucane.

Inspired by classic Tetris mechanics, but played on a rotating hexagon: blocks fall from each of the six sides toward the center.

Also exists in a vintage DOS version from 1991 by Silicon Square Software, a freeware Tetris clone using hexagons.

🧩 How to Play

Blocks “rain” toward the center of a hexagon.

Rotate the hexagon using arrow keys or A/D (desktop), or swipe (mobile) to align blocks.

Match 3 or more blocks of the same color to clear them and earn points.

The game ends if any side’s stack breaches the outer hexagon boundary.

⚙️ Features & Mechanics

Simple and minimalist UI, with blocks in 4+ colors.

As speed increases, gameplay demands faster reflexes and strategic rotation.

Combos (chain reactions clearing multiple lines) offer extra points and are visually indicated by the outlined outer hexagon.

Open-source version available on GitHub under the GNU GPL.
